Ex-defense minister Okruashvili attacked in Georgia's Gori village; security guard, fellow party member injured

TBILISI. Oct 2 (Interfax) - A former Georgian defense minister, Irakli Okruashvili, who is running for parliament, was attacked in the Georgian town of Gori on Sunday.

The attack injured his security guard and one of activists from his Georgian Party, Georgian media reported. They were taken to a hospital in Gori and right now their lives are not in danger.

There were two assailants, both were armed with pistols, Okruashvili told the Rustavi 2 television company. The ex-defense minister is going to give a press conference in the next few hours in relation to the incident.

The Georgian Interior Ministry has yet to comment on the incident.
