Russian children's ombudsman requests information from her Chechen counterpart about children's hand-to-hand fights

MOSCOW. Oct 6 (Interfax) - Russian presidential children's rights commissioner Anna Kuznetsova will verify information about mixed martial art competitions among children in Grozny, her press service told Interfax.

"These fights probably were an exhibition performance, but the blows the children delivered to each other were real, and they were not wearing the required protective equipment. It is important to examine the incident in detail and establish whether holding such events is a regular occurrence and how it affects children's health," the press service cited Kuznetsova as saying.

Kuznetsova "has requested relevant information from the children's rights commissioner for the Chechen Republic," the statement sent to Interfax on Thursday said.

"The health and safety of children is above all," Kuznetsova said.
