Russian Foreign Ministry denounces attack on Russia's embassy in Damascus, reaffirms determination to uncompromisingly fight terrorists in Syria
MOSCOW. Oct 13 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry has denounced a mortar attack on Russia's embassy in Damascus directed from the Jobar municipality controlled by extremists.
"We strongly denounce another terrorist attack on the Russian diplomatic mission. We expect all those who reject terrorism and practically share the principle of inviolability of diplomatic missions to openly voice their due opinion in this regard. We reaffirm that Russia will continue its consistent line toward an uncompromising fight against terrorists in Syria," the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
Starting from 11:30 a.m. on October 12, the neighborhood where the Russian embassy in Damascus is located was shelled with mortars for nearly two hours from the Jobar municipality controlled by extremists, the Foreign Ministry said.
One of the mines exploded in the near vicinity of the embassy's security outpost, another not far from the entrance to the consular section, and two more about a hundred meters from the embassy's fence. One more mine fell onto the roof of a local school located not far from the Russian embassy, but did not explode, it said.
"The shelling left shrapnel in the embassy compound's territory. None of the Russian officials were harmed. The material damage has yet to be estimated," it said.
