Atmosphere of trust should accompany work on Russia-Japan peace treaty - Matviyenko

TOKYO. Nov 1 (Interfax) - An atmosphere of trust needs to be formed between Russia and Japan, Valentina Matviyenko, speaker of the Federation Council, the upper house of Russia's parliament, said.

"No matter which spheres of cooperation we address - work to draft a peace treaty or the broadening of our economic cooperation, the most important thing in all of the spheres is to build an atmosphere of trust between our countries and peoples," she said at a meeting with representatives of the Japanese non-governmental organization Council of Friendly Exchanges in Tokyo on Tuesday.

The parliaments play a special role in this issue, she said.
