U.S. elections' outcome not to harm relations with Georgia - U.S. ambassador

TBILISI. Nov 9 (Interfax) - Relations between the United States and Georgia will not change no matter which presidential candidate moves into the White House, U.S. Ambassador in Tbilisi Ian Kelly said.

Kelly told the press on Wednesday it was a special day for the United States and they should listen to people demanding a change. He said though it would be premature to speak about election results. In the opinion of the ambassador, the United States will continue to support Georgia, which is proven by the Congressional resolution backing Georgian sovereignty. He also said he would carry on cooperation with the new administration to support Georgia.

Georgia enjoys support of both the Democrats and the Republicans in the United States, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze said.

"A resolution on Georgia adopted by the Congress in September declared unanimous support of both parties, so we are hopeful that bilateral relations will not change no matter what the American people decide," Janelidze told reporters.

He recalled the visit the U.S. secretary of state paid to Georgia this year and said he expected the new president to visit Tbilisi, as well.
