ICRC head to meet with Medvedev, Lavrov, Bordyuzha, Deputy Defense Minister Antonov in Moscow

MOSCOW. Nov 21 (Interfax) - International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) president Peter Maurer will visit Russia on November 23-25 and will hold several meetings with the country's leadership, the ICRC said.

Maurer plans to meet with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov and Collective Security Treaty Organization Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha, the ICRC said in a statement seen by Interfax on Monday.

During his visit to Moscow he will also meet with the Russian Red Cross leadership and representatives of the expert circles. The ICRC president will attend a special session of the Valdai international discussion club, which will discuss a number of issues concerning present-day challenges in the area of international humanitarian law, Russia's role in the search for settlement of humanitarian crises and its contribution into development and observance of international humanitarian law, the Red Cross said.

This is Maurer's fourth visit to Russia as the ICRC president. The primary goal of the planned visit is to boost relations between the ICRC and Russian authorities, enhance dialogue and step up cooperation on the most topical internationally important humanitarian issues, the ICRC said.

Medvedev will meet with Maurer on November 24, the Russian government's press service said earlier on Monday.
