Russian emergency situations minister orders inspection of all public transport, road services
MOSCOW. Dec 5 (Interfax) - Russian Emergency Situations Minister Vladimir Puchkov has ordered an inspection of all public transport and work with drivers following the road accident in the Khanty-Mansiisk Autonomous District.
"The number of serious road accidents on regional motorways has increased. I will ask that all public transport be inspected, more work be done with drivers, and the work of all road services be inspected," Puchkov said during an intercom meeting in the National Crisis Management Center of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry.
The transportation of all organized groups is a special responsibility, he said. "When we carry organized groups of people, especially children, it's a zone of close attention and personal responsibility of relevant top officials in the regions," he said.
"I will ask everyone to draw conclusions from this tragedy and take all measures to prevent such accidents and road accidents with grave outcomes," the minister said.
A truck, two cars and a bus en route from Khanty-Mansiisk collided on Sunday. The bus was carrying 34 passengers, including 27 children. The road accident killed 12 people; 22 people were injured.
