Nordgold wins license to satellite of Neryungri deposit with 4.4 tonnes of gold

MOSCOW. Dec 8 (Interfax) - The Neryungri Mine, a division of Nordgold, has secured the exploration and mining license to the new gold deposit Tyomnoye in southern Yakutia, Neryungri-Metallik reported.

Neryungri-Metallik mines gold at the Taborny block. The Tyomnoye deposit is located near Taborny and was discovered by the mine's geologists in the course of efforts to increase reserves within the bounds of the infrastructure of the existing open-pit mine.

Tyomnoye has booked reserves of 4.4 tonnes of gold with average grade of about 1 gram/tonne, enough reserves to keep the Neryungri mine operating for at least two years.

"In the ten years of doing exploration work at our own expense, we have already discovered two new hard rock gold deposits - Gross and Tyomnoye. They are located not far from one another and, most importantly, close to the existing Neryungri mine," Neryungri chief geologist Natalya Chvarova was quoted as saying in the press release.

The company also recently acquired the prospecting license to a block in the basin of the Tokko River that is 4 km west of the Neryungri mine and will make it possible to expand the mine's mineral resource base. The Tokko block is expected to be explored for the next five years, but if prospective targets are found the duration can be extended.
