Voter turnout at presidential election in Transdniestria reaches 45.56% as of 3 p.m. - CEC
TIRASPOL. Dec 11 (Interfax) - The voter turnout at the presidential election in the unrecognized Transdniestrian Moldovan Republic exceeded 45%, the country's Central Election Commission (CEC) said on Sunday.
According to the Transdniestrian CEC's official data, the voter turnout amounted to 45.56% as of 3 p.m. local time (4 p.m. Moscow time). The highest voter turnout of nearly 49% has been reached in Tiraspol, 48% in the Grigoriopol district.
Meanwhile, the instance of voting for four voters by one person has been uncovered at the election, Transdniestrian CEC chairperson Yelena Gorodetskaya said at a briefing. For three of them the same woman has dropped pieces of paper, which vary from a ballot paper by their design, into a ballot box, she said.
Besides, international observers said at a briefing that the Moldovan authorities did not admit several of their colleagues from Russia, Georgia, the Czech Republic and France to the election.
The 25% turnout threshold at the Transdniestrian presidential election has been passed by noon. According to the CEC data as of noon local time (1 p.m.), the voter turnout has amounted to 28.25% of the electorate.
The primary rivalry will unfold between Yevgeny Shevchuk and local parliament speaker, former interior minister Vadim Krasnoselsky, who is supported by big business represented by Sherif LLC, the Renovation Party and first Transdniestrian President Igor Smirnov, Transdniestrian and foreign experts said.
