Poroshenko, Merkel discuss situations in Donbas, anti-Russian sanctions

KYIV. Dec 12 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed concern over the pro-Russian forces' constantly violating the ceasefire regime in Donbas, the Ukrainian presidential website said.

Russia's blocking the process of releasing 'Ukrainian hostages' is unacceptable, Poroshenko said in a telephone conversation with Merkel.

Poroshenko also expressed hope that the EU decision on another extension of the anti-Russian sanctions will be made promptly.

Merkel said, for her part, that she will be facilitating the swift finalizing of the procedure of granting Ukrainians a visa-free regime, as well as finding a compromise in order to have the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement ratified, it said.

The two leaders also discussed issues related to the energy security of Ukraine and the EU.
