Iran, Lukoil discuss Anaran project

MOSCOW. Dec 13 (Interfax) - Iran is discussing with Lukoil proposals concerning the Anaran field, the Russian Energy Ministry said on Twitter citing Iranian Information and Communications Technology Minister Mahmoud Vaezi.

"Iran is discussing with Lukoil a company proposal concerning the Anaran field; a visit by [Lukoil President] Vagit Alekperov is expected," he said.

Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said that "Lukoil's interaction with Iran includes geological study of offshore areas in the northwestern Persian Gulf and the south of the Abadan Plateau.

Alekperov said previously that the company is in talks with Iran concerning the Al-Mansouri and the Ab-Teimour fields.

Lukoil previously conducted exploration on the Anaran project in a consortium with Norway's Statoil. Statoil owned 75% and Lukoil held 25%. The exploration resulted in the discovery of two fields, Azar and Shangul. Lukoil and Statoil held negotiations on a contract with Iran to develop the fields, but it was never signed.
