Ceasefire should be applied to all Syria, but shouldn't be applied to terrorists - Turkish foreign minister
MOSCOW. Dec 20 (Interfax) - The ceasefire should be spread on the whole Syrian territory, but at the same time this should not be applied to terrorists, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said.
"Today, we are definitely speaking about the ceasefire, and we are saying that the ceasefire should be applied to the whole of Syria," Cavusoglu said at a press conference following the talks with the foreign ministers of Russia and Iran.
This regime should not be applied "to the terrorist organizations, such as al-Nusra and ISIL [both outlawed in Russia], but there are also other groups, which are connected with the Syrian regime, for instance, Hezbollah," he also said.
It is needed to stop supporting them, Cavusoglu said. "One cannot point only at one group or one side. All the sides should cease the fire. I think that you understood well what I told you," the minister said.
In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that "every effort, which we are undertaking for the settlement of the Syrian crisis and ensuring the regime of the cessation of hostilities, spreading it on the whole Syrian territory, definitely drop from this regime Jabhat al-Nusra, ISIL and the structures associated with them."
"This is the UN Security Council's decision and it is necessary to be guided particularly by this," the Russian foreign minister said.
