Sochi plane crash may have been caused by bird - source

SOCHI. Dec 25 (Interfax) - Investigators are probing several lines of inquiry into the crash of an aircraft off Sochi, an informed source told Interfax.

There are a migrant bird station and an ornithology park near the Sochi airport, he said.

"A bird may have hit the plane's engine," the source said.

An oil spill and plane wreckage were found in the water off Sochi's Khostinsky district.

"Aside from a technical failure of the aircraft, investigators are also probing the quality of fuel as a possible cause," the source said.

Flights from Moscow to Sochi have been delayed indefinitely, he said.

It was reported earlier that the Tu-154 plane flew out of Sochi at 5:20 a.m. Moscow time, and disappeared from the radar at 5:40 a.m. Moscow time.
