Hydrogen sulfide outbreak recorded in southeastern Moscow on Wednesday evening - environmental watchdog

MOSCOW. Jan 5 (Interfax) - An automatic air pollution control station in Moscow's Maryino neighborhood recorded abnormal concentration of hydrogen sulfide in the air on Wednesday evening, the Moscow municipal environmental watchdog Mosecomonitoring reported on Thursday.

The actual hydrogen sulfide concentration in the air was 8.3 times higher than the maximum one-time permissible concentration as of 8:00 p.m., 25.5 times higher as of 9:00 p.m. and 28 times higher as of 10:00 p.m. Wednesday, Mosecomonitoring said.

The concentration of hydrogen sulfide in the air in Maryino went back to normal only by 1:00 a.m. Thursday, it said.

At the same time, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry department for Moscow told Interfax it did not record any excessive concentration of hazardous substances in the air.

"No maximum permissible concentration standards were exceeded," it said.
