RVSN and Aerospace Forces conduct combat training launch of Topol-M silo-based ICBM - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Jan 17 (Interfax-AVN) - A combat training launch of a Topol-M silo-based intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) has been carried out from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome, the Russian Defense Ministry's press service told Interfax-AVN.

"A joint unit of the Strategic Missile Forces [RVSN] and the Aerospace Forces conducted a launch of a Topol-M silo-based ICBM from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome on January 16, 2017," the press service said.

"The exercise warhead of the missile engaged a target at a training range on the Kamchatka peninsula with high accuracy," the Defense Ministry said.

"The objective of this launch was to confirm the stability of the flight and technical characteristics of this type of ICBMs," it said.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on January 10 that RVSN would perform more than ten test launches of ICBMs this year.
