Golos voter rights protection movement awarded with 'Democracy Defender' intl prize
MOSCOW. Jan 18 (Interfax) - Russia's Golos movement for protection of voter rights has won the 'Democracy Defender' international award.
"The Golos movement for protection of voter rights was awarded the international Democracy Defender Award. Golos became a laureate for 'exclusive contribution to the promotion of democracy and protection of human rights'," the movement said in a statement posted on its site on Wednesday.
The awards ceremony was held in Vienna on January 18 and was attended by co-chair of the Golos movement's council Yuri Gurman.
The 'Democracy Defender' award was established at the beginning of 2016 at the initiative of the ambassadors from eight countries and was supported by delegations from 18 member countries of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
