Kyrgyzstan needs to profit from EAEU integration for population to see upside of this step - PM

BISHKEK. Jan 18 (Interfax) - Kyrgyzstan needs to continue working on the improvement of terms of its participation in the Eurasian Economic Union [EAEU], Kyrgyz Prime Minister Soronbai Jeenbekov said.

"Despite the influence of adverse factors and trends in the global economy, the government succeeded in taking many measures to adapt the country to the new conditions of Eurasian integration. Nevertheless, the community is discussing the issues and problems, we need to take criticism into consideration and continue work on the improvement of the terms of the country's participation in the EAEU," the Kyrgyz prime minister said during a meeting on Kyrgyzstan's integration with the EAEU.

The Kyrgyz governmental press service told Interfax that Jeenbekov pointed out that Kyrgyzstan had joined the integration union on favorable terms for the country, and all issues and problems are being resolved on these conditions and in a timeframe that are agreed upon in the Eurasian integration agreements.

"We need to reap maximum benefits from integration for the population of the country to see positive aspects of participation in the EAEU," the minister said.

According to the Kyrgyz government, since the republic joined the EAEU, all necessary measure to fit customs checkpoints, border crossing points and laboratories with required equipment have been taken. Equipment was provided to four border crossing points, such as Manas, Osh, Torugart and Irkeshtam, and seven veterinary control checkpoints. In addition to that, work on construction and equipment of eight border crossing points by means of state budget funds is underway.

"Apart from that, Kyrgyzstan's 30 accredited laboratories and nine certification bodies were added to the EAEU Unified Register [of organizations] which issue documents that are equally recognized in the entire territory of the union," the press service said.

The Kyrgyz government said that 19 Kyrgyz livestock production enterprises were added to a relevant EAEU register and have a right to supply goods to the territories of EAEU member states. Customs escort of Kyrgyz carriers in the territory of Kazakhstan was withdrawn in February 2016.
