Young people from Chechnya serving in Russian military police battalion in Syria - Kadyrov

MOSCOW. Jan 23 (Interfax) - Head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov has confirmed that young people from Chechnya are serving in the Russian Defense Ministry's military police battalion in Syria.

Kadyrov said on Instagram that he had met on Monday with State Duma deputy Adam Delimkhanov and Chechen Mufti Salakh-Haji Mezhiyev, who had just returned from Syria where they had traveled on Kadyrov's instructions.

"The delegation met with the Syrian president's brother, Gen. Maher al-Assad, prominent religious figures, professors and students of the Damascus University, Aleppo Governor Hussein Diab, and members of the Russian military command," Kadyrov said.

"Mezhiyev and Delimkhanov visited a battalion of the Russian Defense Ministry military police, in which young people from Chechnya are serving," Kadyrov said. "The servicemen said with pride that they are honored to serve to maintain peace, law and order in Aleppo and protect the civilian population from terrorists," Kadyrov said.
