Syrian opposition members intend to set up working groups on new constitution, on forming common delegation in Geneva - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Jan 27 (Interfax) - Syrian opposition members who met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Friday are determined to set up working groups to form a common opposition delegation at negotiations in Geneva.

"The Syrians have expressed the desire to set up working groups on constitutional matters and on forming a common opposition delegation at the upcoming round of intra-Syrian negotiations in Geneva under the UN aegis," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary summing up the outcomes of the meeting.

"The members of Syrian internal and external opposition highly appreciated the efforts being made by Russia in the interests of the soonest possible settlement in Syria through an inclusive intra-Syrian dialogue based on the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, the International Syria Support Group's decisions, and the June 30, 2012 communique," it said.

The opposition delegates at the negotiations were provided with a draft Syrian constitution drawn up by Russian experts, it said.

It had been reported earlier that more than ten members of various Syrian opposition groups had taken part in the negotiations.
