Tymoshenko heads to U.S. with Donbas settlement proposals

KYIV. Jan 30 (Interfax) - Batkivshchyna party leader Yulia Tymoshenko has travelled to the United States to meet with U.S. politicians and set out her vision of how to coordinate the efforts to settle the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

"I am traveling to the U.S. to meet with Congressmen, Senators, future government members - those who have come in with the new U.S. president's team, in order to try and build a system of protecting Ukraine's national interests," Tymoshenko said, according to her party's website.

Tymoshenko is planning to persuade the U.S. political establishment that anti-Russian sanctions must not be lifted until there is peace in Ukraine and its territorial integrity has been restored, the statement said.

"I am traveling with proposals of a peaceful plan to settle the conflict in eastern Ukraine and I have a very clear vision of how to coordinate all countries that can help Ukraine and the world to end this war at the heart of Europe," Tymoshenko said.

In addition, at meetings with U.S. politicians she intends to discuss anti-corruption efforts to strengthen democracy in Ukraine, she said.

On her U.S. trip Tymoshenko is joined by her deputy and head of the parliamentary human rights committee Hryhory Nemyria and the head of the parliamentary committee for nation-building, regional policy and local self-administration Serhiy Vlasenko, according to Batkivshchyna's website.

The dates of the visit are from January 29 to February 4.
