Over 130 miners being evacuated from Makiivka mine which came under fire

DONETSK. Feb 2 (Interfax) - A total of 131 miners are being evacuated from Makiivka's Shcheglovka-Glubokaya mine, which was shelled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) said.

"Strikes on the republic's coal mining enterprises are continuing. The Shcheglovka-Glubokaya mine of the Donbas mine administration once again came under the Ukrainian Armed Forces' artillery fire at 10:40 a.m. on February 2. There were 131 miners underground at the time of the shelling. Their evacuation to the surface began at 11:30 a.m.," the Donetsk news agency said, citing the DPR Coal and Energy Ministry.

A surface mechanic was injured and admitted to a hospital after a projectile hit the mine's winding tower, it said.

It was reported earlier that two miners of the Shcheglovka-Glubokaya mine were wounded as Ukrainian armed forces shelled the town of Makiivka. Both miners were admitted to the Clinical Hospital for Miners.
