Growing number of communities in France in favor of lifting anti-Russian sanctions - Russian ambassador
MOSCOW. Feb 11 (Interfax) - It will be difficult for the European Union to maintain the anti-Russian sanctions, if Washington adopts the decision to lift them on its part, Russian Ambassador to France Alexander Orlov said in an interview with Interfax.
"Certainly, the overall international context will also affect lifting of the sanctions. In particular, if the United States adopts this decision, it will be very difficult for the EU to maintain the anti-Russian sanctions, especially, because in these countries, as in France, the movement in favor of lifting them is increasing," he said.
"France is a victim of the sanctions policy, rather than its initiator. A growing number of communities, in politics, business and public, stand for lifting the sanctions," the ambassador said.
Orlov recalled that France did not initiate the sanctions imposed on Russia.
"In this case, the decision was adopted collectively by the European Union member states in Brussels," he said.
