UAC, HAL heads to hold talks on localization of IL-114 manufacture in India
BANGALORE/MOSCOW. Feb 14 (Interfax) - The heads of United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) are holding talks on the localization of regional passenger aircraft Il-114 -300 manufacture in India, UAC Vice President of Civil Aviation Vladislav Masalov told journalists.
"There will be a meeting between Slyusar [UAC head Yury Slyusar] and the HAL President on the Il-114. Last year during working groups of an intergovernmental commission, the question of opportunities for cooperation in the IL-114 project arose, with the goal of localizing manufacture in India as part of the Made in India program. We will hold the meeting and are hopeful of interest from Indian companies and Indian authorities," he said.
The Il-114 was developed by the Ilyushin design bureau in the 1980s, intended for regional routes. The plane was built in Tashkent, with a total of 20 planes produced, the majority already out of operation. A modernization program for the Il-114 was started this year on instruction from President Vladimir Putin. OJSC Ilyushin Aviation Complex (MOEX AKIL) will develop the Il-114-300, the principle manufacturer is Russian Aircraft Corporation; the manufacture of components and the final assembling of the plane will be carried out at their factories.
