U.S.-Russia commission on POW/MIAs converges in Moscow - Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - The U.S.-Russia Joint Commission on POW/MIAs has had a working meeting in Moscow, a spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry told Interfax on Tuesday.

"The joint search for servicemen who have gone missing in action during various wars and armed conflicts and the establishment of their fate has been rather successful," the spokesman said.

The sides discussed the joint implementation of the decisions made at the 20th plenary meeting of the commission in Washington in May 2016, he said.

Heads and experts of the working groups on WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and the local conflicts and hostilities in Afghanistan held negotiations, he said.

The commission was established in March 1992 as agreed between the presidents of Russia and the United States. Its primary objective is to establish what happened to servicemen missing in action.
