MEPs should visit Syria to form their own views of events in country - Kosachyov
MOSCOW. March 1 (Interfax) - The head of the Federation Council International Affairs Committee, Konstantin Kosachyov, has invited members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to visit Syria together with Russian senators.
"I would like now, through channels of television communication, to pass an absolutely officially invitation both to today's participants in our video link-up with Brussels, and any of their fellow MEPs who will be ready to take part in this: to jointly visit Syria," Kosachyov said during a video link-up with Brussels, which focused on the Syrian peace process.
In Damascus, MEPs could "meet both with representatives of the official authorities, and with opposition representatives, visit other populated localities, including the recently freed Aleppo, talk to the people who were really rescued there as a result of this operation, and thus form their own opinion about what is going on," Kosachyov said.
"We are ready for this sort of trip, we are ready to make it happen on a regular basis," the Russian senator said.
