Bogdanov, Iraqi ambassador discuss anti-ISIL operation in country

MOSCOW. March 15 (Interfax) - The Russian president's special representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Iraqi Ambassador to Russia Haidar Mansour Hadi have discussed bilateral relations and the counterterrorist operation in that country, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The conversation was an interested exchange of views on the pressing issues of the regional agenda with an emphasis on the situation in Iraq in light of the ongoing large-scale counterterrorist operation in this country to eliminate the presence of ISIL and other extremist groups," the ministry said on Wednesday.

"The diplomats also touched on a number of practical aspects of the bilateral Russian-Iraqi interaction, including maintaining the active political dialogue," the ministry said.

The meeting took place at the Iraqi request.

The Russian Supreme Court declared Islamic State (ISIL) a terrorist organization and banned its activities on Russian territory.
