Matviyenko believes int'l community to recognize Crimea referendum's outcome soon

MOSCOW. March 17 (Interfax) - The international recognition of the referendum in Crimea is inevitable in the near future, Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko said.

"Suggestions to cease ignoring the Crimean residents' free expression of will are increasingly voiced at political debating forums in various countries. I believe, the complete international recognition of the outcome of the referendum of March 16, 2014, is inevitable, even in not too distant future," Matviyenko said on her blog on the Federation Council's official website ahead of the Day of Crimea's Reunification with Russia.

It is exactly the decision which is dictated by realism in the politics, she said.

"Over the past three years we have been observing a change in the attitude of certain representatives of our western partners, the progression from the total rejection and condemnation to an attempt to figure out what had really happened in Crimea in March 2014," Matviyenko said.

French parliamentarians' visits to the peninsula organized with the assistance of the Federation Council played an important role in that, she said.
