SBU opens terrorist act case after attack at Polish Consulate General in Lutsk

KYIV. March 29 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) has opened a criminal inquiry under the 'terrorist act' Criminal Code article over the shelling and a blast in the Polish Consulate General building in Lutsk, the investigation is under the control of the Volyn regional prosecution service branch.

"Progress in the investigation within criminal proceedings over a terrorist act which has been committed on the premises of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk, is under the special control of the Volyn regional prosecution service branch [...] The data regarding a terrorist act (part 1 Article 258 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code) is put on a common register of pre-trial inquiries. The regional prosecution service branch has vested the Ukrainian Security Service branch in the Volyn region with investigative jurisdiction in this criminal case," the Volyn regional prosecution service press service said.

The consul and the consulate guards were located in the building at the moment of the explosion, but they were not hurt, the prosecution service said.

During the search at the crime scene metallic pieces, a cylindrical object resembling a rocket-propelled grenade tailpiece, were discovered. A metallic object looking like a light anti-tank grenade launcher tube cover was also found.

An RPG grenade launcher hit triggered the blast, head of the SBU branch in the Volyn region Yuriy Feloniuk said. For the inquiry a team of SBU employees and police officers was set up under procedural oversight of the prosecution service, he said at a news briefing.
