Russia will not change claim to extend Arctic shelf due to overlap with Danish claim

ARKHANGELSK. March 30 (Interfax) - Russia will not change its claim on the expansion of its Arctic shelf borders, submitted to the UN, regardless of an overlap with the Danish claim, Natural Resources Minister Sergei Donskoi told reporters.

"We are not planning on changing our claim," he said.

Donskoi said that Denmark submitted its claim later than other Arctic countries, and these materials, the proposed shelf borders and justification for expansion overlap with those of other countries.

The minister said that the discussion process for the Russian claim on expanding the borders of the shelf has already been launched and is underway at the level of foreign ministries.
