Participants in April 26-27 conference in Moscow to discuss security threats in world, fight against terrorism - Shoigu

MOSCOW. March 31 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Defense Ministry will host the sixth Moscow Conference on International Security on April 26-27, an event that will address threats to security in different parts of the world and the fight against terrorism, Russian Defense Minister Gen. of the Army Sergei Shoigu said during a teleconference on Friday.

"The main topics will be the fight against international terrorism and threats to security in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa," Shoigu said.

"In addition to that, we will also discuss issues concerning information space protection," the minister said.

"The forum has been ever more popular from year to year," Shoigu said.

"Twenty-four defense ministers, the heads of seven international organizations and 14 deputy defense ministers have already confirmed their attendance," he said.

"We expect a total of more than 700 guests, including around 500 foreign guests, to attend [the conference]," he said.

"Such a large scale of representation shows that the Moscow conference has become an efficient format for exchanging experience on how to maintain national, regional and global security," Shoigu said.

"We expect that discussions during the forum will allow us to formulate common approaches to settling crises and will help promote confidence building measures and mutual understanding between our countries," he said.
