Rostov-on-Don resident detained for blowing up flashlight-shaped bomb, confesses to crime of passion - Russian Investigative Committee
ROSTOV-ON-DON. April 7 (Interfax) - The man detained on suspicion of staging an explosion in Rostov-on-Don has confessed to the crime, a spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee's department in the Rostov region told Interfax.
"The suspect, 46-year-old Rostov-on-Don resident Eduard Sharapov, was rapidly identified and taken into custody. He told the interrogators that he had a lasting dislike for the victim because he was jealous of a woman. The suspect knew the victim's routine and itinerary and decided to kill him with an improvised explosive device," the spokesman said.
The detainee said that he wittingly left the flashlight, which camouflaged the explosive device, turned on so that light-emitting diodes drew attention of the victim.
A pedestrian was hurt in the explosion of an unknown device on Sotsialisticheskaya Street in Rostov early in the morning of April 6. According to the preliminary reports, the device was shaped like a flashlight.
