U.S. chose different way to interacting with Russia on counter-terrorism - Russian diplomat

NEW YORK (UN). April 7 (Interfax) - The United States went down its own path, having ignored Russia's proposal to create a united anti-terror front, Russia's deputy envoy to the United Nations Vladimir Safronkov said.

"Russia, from the UN rostrum, declared the need to form an international coalition to fight terrorism, which would be carried out on the basis of the principles of international law. We have repeatedly signaled to Washington our readiness for such interaction. You went down a different way," Safronkov said at an emergency UN Security Council meeting on Syria.

"You need to remember that whenever you went your way, this would turn into deepest tragedies for countries, regions and their populations," the Russian diplomat said.

He urged the U.S. "to think about consequences" and recall "the mess it has already done in the Middle East."

"Also, think of the serious effect your steps are having on the political settlement process in Syria," Safronkov said.
