Roadmap to introduce EGAIS in tobacco industry could be put together in May - Khloponin

MOSCOW. April 14 (Interfax) - A road map to introduce the Integrated Automated State Information System (EGAIS) in Russia's tobacco industry could be developed in May, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Khloponin told journalists.

"EGAIS is the most effective way of monitoring turnover in the tobacco market, we support this," he said.

He said that at the moment the share of illegal tobacco on the market totaled 2%. "But we absolutely don't see this illegal market," he said.

Khloponin said that Russian budget failed to receive up to 120 billion rubles in excise from tobacco in three years.

The EGAIS was introduced in 2006 for the alcohol industry. It was initially introduced in order to regulate production of alcohol products. Afterwards, wholesale trade was included, and since July 2016, retail trade as well. The EGAIS has the goal of fighting trade and turnover of illegal products.
