Up to 30,000 Azeri troops to practice interaction in simulated combat environment - Defense Ministry

BAKU. April 14 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan will employ up to 30,000 of its troops in a large-scale exercise, the country's Defense Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

"Starting from April 16, a large-scale exercise will be held to test troops' combat readiness, organization of control over forces and equipment and their interaction under simulated combat conditions," the statement says.

The exercise will involve up to 30,000 personnel, over 250 tanks and armored vehicles, up to 200 rocket-artillery weapons of various caliber, multiple rocket launchers and mortars, 25 various combat aircraft, and new radio reconnaissance tools and unmanned aerial vehicles.

During the exercise, the troops will practice various modern warfare techniques and operations in complex terrain conditions, the defense ministry said.

"The tasks will include redeploying troops and command-and-control posts to assigned areas, gathering and dispatching mobilized resources as designated, creating attack groups and deploying them on selected fronts, diverting military aircraft to alternate airfields, and moving missile and artillery troops to temporary firing and launch positions," the statement says.

The exercise will follow a plan approved by President Ilham Aliyev.
