St. Pete authorities decline to authorize Open Russia rally on April 29 - organizers

ST. PETERSBURG. April 19 (Interfax) - The St. Petersburg committee on law, order and observance of law has declined to authorize a rally organized by supporters of the Open Russia movement scheduled for April 29, Andrei Pivovarov, regional coordinator of the movement, said on Facebook on Tuesday.

"Officials are saying a Saturday cleanup will be conducted on the route proposed by us exactly on that day. The cleanup was initially scheduled for April 22, but it was promptly postponed by one week," Pivovarov said.

The authorities' denial does not change anything in the organizers' plans, he said.

"There are no violations in people coming to the presidential reception office peacefully and without any symbols and bringing their addresses," Pivovarov said.

Among the issues raised by the activists are corruption, the increase of tariffs, the renaming of toponymic objects, and the irremovability of the state administration.
