Utyos stationary coastal system fires missiles on marine targets in Crimea
MOSCOW. April 25 (Interfax-AVN) - A battalion of the Utyos stationary coastal missile system of the Black Sea Fleet's missile artillery formation, whose combat capability was fully restored in late 2016, has conducted live fire missile drills in Crimea, a source with knowledge of the situation told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.
A crew "prepared the launcher for firing, raised it from the underground location, put it into position, and fired a cruise missile on a marine target," the source said.
Another source with knowledge of the situation told Interfax-AVN in November 2016 that the Utyos silo-based coastal missile system battalion stationed in Crimea had regained its combat capability.
Utyos was assigned to Ukraine under the 1996 treaty on the division of the Black Sea Fleet and abandoned.
The Utyos coastal system armed with P-35 Progress anti-ship cruise missiles was designed by Reutov NPO Mashinostroyeniya. According to open sources, the system operates at a range of 450 kilometers.
