Creation of new transport aircraft is primary objective - UAC
NOVOSIBIRSK. May 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The creation of new transport aircraft is a primary objective of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), Corporation Vice-President for Innovations Sergei Korotkov told reporters on Wednesday.
"Requirements for such planes are being laid down, and interaction with foreign states which would like to join these projects is underway," Korotkov said.
In the past, Russia used Antonov transport aircraft built together with Ukrainian plants, he said.
"It is impossible to reproduce these planes, so we have a task of replacing the entire fleet of transport and special aircraft in the course of substitution of imports," he said.
UAC has a plan of laying R&D groundwork for the transport plane's engine, Korotkov said.
He added that an Ilyushin Il-112 plane powered with Russian engines would perform a flight soon.
It has been decided to cut the range of aircraft engines, Korotkov said.
"A range of engines varying from 10 to 20 tonnes will be created on the basis of a standard gas generator unit, and the PD-35 engine will be the core of the next engine family," he said.
