Russian Defense Ministry records 9 shooting incidents in Syria, says situation is generally stable
MOSCOW. May 16 (Interfax) - The Russian Defense Ministry reported a number of shooting incidents in three Syrian governorates on Tuesday.
"The situation in the de-escalation areas has been stable. The Russian part of the Russian-Turkish joint commission investigating ceasefire breaches recorded nine shooting incidents in the past 24 hours," the ministry said.
It said the ceasefire breaches were observed in the governorates of Damascus (4), Latakia (2), and Hama (3). The Turkish members of the commission, for their part, reported four breaches in the governorates of Idlib (1) and Hama (3).
"Most cases of random small arms fire were seen in the areas held by militants of the Jabhat al-Nusra and ISIL terrorist groups (banned in Russia)," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
