Russia completes Venezuelan contracts on military purpose goods exports - agency

LIMA. May 20 (Interfax) - Russia has completed performance of the major contracts on delivery of weapons and military equipment to Venezuela, Anatoly Punchuk, deputy director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC), told Interfax.

"Today all major contracts with Venezuela have been completed. The Venezuelan side has received all the contracted goods. The Russian side has met its obligations in full," Punchuk said at the International Exhibition of Technology in Defense and Prevention of Natural Disasters SITDEF 2017 in Lima, Peru.

Media reported earlier that Venezuela had undertaken to buy Russia's Buk-M2 medium-range mobile air defense systems and Antey-2500 long-range air defense systems designed and produced by Almaz-Antey. According to some reports, Caracas has also purchased Sukhoi Su- 30MK2 fighter jets, Mill Mi-35M helicopters, T-72 tanks, BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles and BTR-80 armored personnel carriers. The total value of the contracts was estimated at $11 billion dollars.

The 6th International Exhibition of Technology in Defense and Prevention of Natural Disasters SITDEF 2017 is being held in Peru on May 18-21. Eight Russian organizations, of which seven will represent military purpose products, have opened their stands at the exhibition, acting under the aegis of Rosoboronexport, the organizer of the Russian exhibition area.
