Kazakhstan condemns N. Korean missile launch, urges Pyongyang to stop nuclear, missile programs

ASTANA. May 22 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan strongly condemns the latest missile launch by North Korea, Kazakh Foreign Ministry spokesman Anuar Zhainakov told Interfax on Monday.

"Kazakhstan sees these irresponsible and provocative actions as unacceptable, posing a serious threat to global and regional security, and undermining the international community's efforts to build a nuclear-free world," Zhainakov said.

This move grossly breaches UN Security Council resolutions 1718 (2006), 1874 (2009), 2087 (2013), 2094 (2013) and 2270 (2016).

"Kazakhstan yet again calls on North Korea to stop military nuclear and missile programs and to comply with the UN Security Council resolutions and urges resumption of the multilateral negotiations on this issue," he said.

North Korea test-fired an intermediate-range ballistic missile at 4:59 p.m. local time on Sunday in the presence of its leader, Kim Jong Un.

South Korean media said with reference to the South Korean Defense Ministry that the missile had flown about 500 kilometers. This has been the 8th missile test launch conducted by Pyongyang in 2017, the media said.
