Arab League secretary-general says supports creation of de-escalation areas in Syria

CAIRO. May 29 (Interfax) - The League of Arab States (LAS) supports the creation of de-escalation areas in Syria, LAS Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"Easily," the Arab League secretary-general said, responding to a question from Russian journalists as to whether he supports the idea of creating de-escalation areas in Syria.

He said he had discussed the subject of de-escalation areas in Syria with Lavrov.
