Medvedev sees new aircraft trials as evidence of Russia preserving its competence in aircraft building

GORKI. May 29 (Interfax) - The tests of new Russian aircraft indicate that Russia has preserved its competence in this industry, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.

He recalled at a meeting with his deputies that the MC-21 airliner had performed its maiden test flight on Sunday, the Kamov Ka-62 helicopter had undergone tests last week.

"These events are actually extraordinary for the country, they don't actually happen that often. What is more, it really seemed at a certain time that we have largely lost our competence in aircraft building. But recent years prove that it is absolutely not so," Medvedev said.

He also recalled that the Sukhoi SuperJet airliner was beginning serial production.
