SCO needs to boost effectiveness in fight against terrorism, drugs - Rahmon
ASTANA. June 9 (Interfax) - The effectiveness of the work of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's (SCO) anti-terrorist structure should be boosted, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has said.
"We believe that relevant attention should be given in the SCO to issues relating to the boosting of the effectiveness of the work of the SCO regional anti-terrorist structure," Rahmon said at a meeting of the SCO heads of state council in Astana on Friday.
Prevention of illegal drug turnover is an important part of the common fight against terrorism and organized crime, he said.
"I would like to again speak about the importance of creating an effective mechanism in SCO to coordinate our joint fight against drug smuggling. We suggest supporting the earlier stated initiative by Tajikistan on the creation of a SCO anti-narcotics center," Rahmon said.
