Transit of hydrocarbons through Georgia could be profitable if tariffs agreement reached - Nazarbayev

ASTANA. June 13 (Interfax) - Transit of hydrocarbons through Georgia could become most profitable in the event that an agreement on tariffs is achieved, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has said.

"The gas and oil transportation corridors passing through the Caucasus, through Georgia are very important. To this end, we were speaking about the importance for Kazakhstan of the Batumi terminal and the Batumi port, which are owned by Kazakh companies. We were discussing issues in order to solve problems that exist," he said during a joint statement with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili on Tuesday in Astana following the bilateral talks.

"If our ministries agree on tariffs, this route could be most profitable for both China, Kazakhstan, and Georgia, would raise the transit opportunities for our country," he said.

Nazarbayev also said that thanks to the development of the One Belt, One Road project Georgia as well as Kazakhstan could become a transit country.
