Efforts can be combined within EEU, China's Silk Road initiative - Putin
MOSCOW. June 15 (Interfax) - The One Belt, One Road forum held in China in May was successful and could open a new phase in cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the Chinese project, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"I believe this event is unique so far. This is the initiative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, a great friend of ours and a personal friend of mine. It proceeded successfully. It was a substantial and successful event," Putin told journalists following a Q&A session on Thursday.
Putin said he expected the forum to mark the beginning of a new phase in cooperation in Eurasia and outside it.
"The main thing we should do is combine our efforts within the Eurasian Economic Union and within the Chinese Silk Road initiative. Can this be done? I am sure it can," he said.
In particular, the parties have a lot of common goals and mutually complementary resources in the economic sector, Putin said.
"Therefore, there is no doubt that we will work together and this work will be efficient and beneficial to both the Chinese and Russian peoples, and not only for us, but will also affect global trends," Putin said.
