IFD Kapital to challenge inclusion on sanctions list

MOSCOW. June 21 (Interfax) - IFD Kapital will file an appeal against its inclusion in a U.S. sanctions list, the Russian company said.

"IFD Kapital Group companies have not conducted any unlawful actions in any jurisdiction where they do business, so we do not see grounds for including IFD Kapital and Olga Plaksina personally in the U.S. sanctions list published today, June 20. IFD Kapital and Olga Plaksina personally do not conduct any business and never owned assets on the Crimean peninsula," the company said in a statement.

The U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), which is responsible for sanctions enforcement, said on Tuesday that CJSC IFD Kapital and its CEO Olga Plaksina had been added to the sanctions list.

OFAC said that IFD Kapital acquired control of the Riviera Sunrise Resort & Spa in Crimea after its previous owner, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, halted operations due to U.S. sanctions against the Black Sea peninsula.

IFD Kapital also said that the Riviera Sunrise Resort & Spa, Alushta has been owned by IFD Kapital affiliates since 2007, and Plaksina has never served on the management bodies of this hotel.

Plaksina also serves on the board of directors of Otkritie Holding.
