Lavrov says Tillerson told him about Damascus' chemical attack plot by phone
KRASNODAR. June 28 (Interfax) - United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told his Russian counterpart about the alleged Syrian government's chemical attack plot by telephone, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"Rex Tillerson called me. The leak, by the way, of what we specifically discussed occurred again on the U.S. side," Lavrov told a joint press conference with his German counterpart Sigmar Gabriel in Krasnodar on Wednesday.
"Now I can confirm, so that there are no false rumors and understatements, that he called me and warned me about the United States having information about the government of the Syrian Arab Republic ostensibly preparing 'yet another' - as he put it - chemical attack against the opposition," Lavrov said.
Tillerson was reminded that "the still absolutely hollow allegations - that Syrian aircraft used chemical munitions during the bombing of Khan Sheikhun on April 4 - remain uninvestigated to this day," Lavrov said.
