Georgia expects visit by U.S. Vice President Pence in July
TBILISI. June 30 (Interfax) - United States Vice President Mike Pence will visit Tbilisi in July, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said on his Facebook page on Friday.
The upcoming visit will be an important step by the U.S. in supporting Georgia, Kvirikashvili said.
Kvirikashvili said later, before a government meeting, that Pence would visit Georgia on July 31-August 1.
Georgia managed to establish contacts at the highest level with the new U.S. administration from the very first day, he said.
"We are happy that Georgia, as a crucial partner for the United States, is among the three countries the vice president has chosen for his visit," the prime minister said.
The U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi, for its part, issued a report on Friday saying that during his visit to Tbilisi, Pence would meet with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Kvirikashvili and other senior Georgian officials.
The U.S. vice president will also meet with Georgian and U.S. servicemen taking part in Exercise Noble Partner, the embassy said.
Pence will visit Estonia, Georgia and Montenegro from July 30 to August 2, it said.
