Hungarian servicemen arrive in Estonia

TALLINN. July 2 (Interfax) - A U.S. C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft carrying a unit of Hungarian servicemen landed at the Tartu airfield in Estonia on Sunday.

They will take part in the Training Bridge 2017 drills and will stay in the country afterwards as part of a three-month rotation, the Estonian Defense Forces press service told Interfax.

"The service together with the Hungarians gives us the opportunity to improve cooperation with allies," commander of the 2nd infantry brigade Col. Eero Rebo said.

The detachment is a part of the 1st mechanized battalion of the Hungarian Armed Forces' 25th infantry brigade. They will be deployed in the city of Voru and will interact with the Estonian Armed Forces' 2nd infantry brigade.

Military hardware involving BTR-80 armored personnel carriers will arrive in Estonia by rail on July 3.

The Hungarian formation will arrive on the basis of the decision made by the Visegrad Group, which announced its plans to make a contribution into deterrence measures undertaken by NATO and to increase the alliance's military presence in the Baltic States.
