Kyiv reports 7 truce breaches in Donbas, says shelling attacks leave 1 serviceman dead
KYIV/LUHANSK. July 3 (Interfax) - One Ukrainian serviceman was killed and another one injured in Monday's fire attacks in Donbas where Ukrainian positions came under fire seven times, the press service of Kyiv's military operation headquarters said.
The fire attacks were mainly conducted using heavy artillery systems. In addition, snipers of Kyiv's adversary became much more active, the press service said in a summary report.
In the coastal sector, Ukrainian positions came under fire two times on the day: in one episode, small arms and an under-barrel grenade launcher were fired one time each near the village of Lebedinske in the Volnovakha district and in another episode, 152mm artillery systems were used near the Mariupol city council's village of Hnutove.
In the Donetsk sector, snipers opened fire twice near the town of Luhanske in the Bakhmut district.
In the Luhansk sector, the headquarters recorded three instances where the truce was violated: once a sniper opened fire near Novotoshkovske in the Popasna district, in another episode, antitank grenade launchers were fired near Zhelte in the Slavyanoserbsky district and also, a strongpoint was fired at near Donets station, the Ukrainian headquarters said.
A 59-year-old local resident was injured in the Donetsk region's Maryinka on Monday morning when the town's residential blocks were subjected to fire, it said.
The self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic said earlier on Monday that Ukrainian forces had breached the Donbas ceasefire twice in the past 24 hours, using small arms and various types of grenade launchers.
"Fire was opened on the positions of our forces near the populated areas of Kalinove and Kalinivka [...] In total, 24 grenades were released to hit the republic's territory," Andrei Marochko, spokesman for the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic's militia, said.
